Cllr Pat English was Mayor of Clonmel Borough District for 2015/2016 and most recently 2019/2020. He was the Mayor of Clonmel for 2013/2014, the very last year of the mayoralty in Clonmel prior to the abolition of Clonmel Borough Council. He was elected in 2004 on his first attempt to both Clonmel Borough Council and South Tipperary Co. Council, and is a current Cllr on the newly formed Tipperary County Council and is Deputy Mayor of the Clonmel / Cahir Municipal District. Pat is married to Carol and they have five children, 3 girls and 2 boys.
Pat is a founder member of the Workers and Unemployed Action Group. He is an active community worker and has particular interest in education, the environment, planning issues and youth services.
He is Chairperson of the Gaelscoil Parent’s Council, Chairperson of Finance Sub-committee of Gaelcholáiste Céitinn, Clonmel, Member of the Board of Management of the Central Technical Institute, Chairman of the Workmen’s Boat Club, Scout Leader with Clonmel Scouts for over 30 years and is also Treasurer of the Save Our Hospital Committee, Treasurer of The Two Bridges Partnership and Vice Chairman of Club 4U.
He was also a member of Clonmel Borough Council’s sub-committees on the Swimming Pool, County Museum, Standing Orders Committee and represents Clonmel Borough Council on South Tipperary Strategic Policy Committee for Physical Planning and Environment and on the South Eastern River Basin District Advisory Council.
