Pre-Legislative Scrutiny Report on the Heads of the Adoption (Information and Tracing ) Bill

Deputy Seamus Healy, Chairperson of the Save Our Acute Hospital Service Committee has welcomed the build at the Accident and Emergency Department at South Tipperary General Hospital which will provide 4 additional treatment cubicles and also the appointment of 5 additional Nurses.
Our Committee has been seeking these measures for some time and they will certainly go some way to address the unacceptable levels of overcrowding that takes place in the Accident and Emergency
Department on a regular basis. However, the Committee believes that additional measures are required to fully address the difficulties.
These include
1. The opening of additional beds at South Tipperary General Hospital.
2. The opening of 12 step down beds to provide for early discharge of patients.
3. The appointment of Community Intervention Teams which would allow for patients to be treated in their own homes and therefore not require hospital admission. Such Teams have been appointed in other area throughout the country.
4. The appointment of additional nursing and support staff at the Accident and Emergency Department.
The Committee will be pursing these proposals with Hospital Management and with the Health Service Executive.
