WATER SERVICES SECTION

DRY WEATHER NOTICE 09 JULY 2013

Fethard and Galtee Regional Water Supply Schemes Water Conservation Measures Update

Following further reductions in source supplies, consequent on the prevailing dry weather conditions, increased demand and ruptures on the watermain network, the following measures, with immediate effect, are necessary to preserve supply:

Night Time shut offs from 9 pm to 7 am:

Shut off to the Coolbawn to Moyglass line affecting surrounding areas.
Turning off at Kilboy, Killenaule affecting Graystown, Cathaganstown and Knockanglass.
This is due to a major burst on the source supply to the Fethard Regional Water Supply Scheme which occurred on 08 July 2013. It will take c. 5 days for the reservoir at Killenaule to be fully replenished as a result of same, assuming no further issues arise in the meantime.
Turning off at Ballinastick reservoir affecting Coalbrook area, Gurteen and areas of Earlshill, Mardyke, Monslatt, Ballincurry and Lickfinn.

Transfer of Supplies to Groundwater Augmentation supplies:

Transfer of the Dualla borehole to the Coleraine, Meldrum, Monagoge and surrounding areas, also if required to Mocklershill area.
Transfer of the Mullinahone borehole to Mullinahone village; Drangan Road, Mullinahone; Gurteen, Mullinoly, Cappoge, Ballycullin Bridge and surrounding areas; also if required to Kilvemnon.
Transfer of the Thomastown borehole supply to Thomastown, Golden village, Rathduff, Kilfeakle East and surrounding areas.

Please note that the transfer may cause a temporary disturbance to the supply mains and that the water in general will be hard in nature.

Also all other regional water supply schemes are under significant pressure and may require action at short notice.

Please also see attached notice, dated 08 July 2013.

Changes to Road markings at Fethard Road Roundabout, Clonmel, Co Tipperary

 Changes made

In the interest of road safety and to alleviate some traffic congestion South Tipperary County Council, in conjunction with Clonmel Borough Council, have recently altered the lane markings at the approach from Clonmel to the Fethard Road Roundabout. The Left Lane is now dedicated to Left Turning traffic only. The Right Lane is now to be used by traffic either travelling straight through the roundabout or turning Right towards Waterford. Road signage has been installed on the approach to the roundabout to give advance warning.

Why has this change been made?

There is frequently congestion on the Inner Relief Road between the Fethard Road Roundabout and the Cashel Road Roundabout. Traffic approaching the Fethard Road Roundabout from Clonmel often can’t turn left towards the Cashel Road Roundabout due to queuing traffic. Prior to recent changes, this held up traffic travelling straight through the roundabout towards Fethard. This unnecessary delay has lead to frustration which in turn can result in unsafe driving manoeuvres.

Further to concerns raised by An Garda Siochana and having observed the situation, South Tipperary County Council have changed the lane markings.

Authority to Make these Changes

As the Roads Authority, the Council is permitted to direct traffic at specific locations through the use of signage and road markings. Lane position is not marked on many roundabouts. However, it is normal practice in cities and large towns to do so where local traffic management is required.  This complies with the Rules of the Road which tells drives which lane to be in “ Unless road signs or road markings indicate otherwise”

South Tipperary County Council and Clonmel  Borough Council apologise for any inconvenience caused while traffic adjusts to the new road layout.

Peter Britton, Senior Engineer, Roads, STCC                        7/2/2013

It will be necessary to close the N74 Tipperary to Cashel Road between Tipperary Town and Golden daily between 7:00am and 7:00pm from Monday 15th October to Friday 19th October in order to facilitate Resurfacing Works over a 1.7km length of the N74 between the Cemex Quarry at Knockballynoe and Kilfeacle Village. Traffic travelling between Tipperary Town and Cashel will be diverted at Tipperary Town onto R661 to Dundrum and then onto R505 to Cashel (and vice versa). Traffic joining the N74 between Cashel and Golden and travelling to Tipperary Town will be diverted at Golden onto Local Road LP1301 and LP1317 to join the R505 at Knockavilla and onto Tipperary Town on R661.

Diversion routes will be signed. (PDF Logo 665 kbs) N74 Route Diversion

Roadworks without road closure will continue for a further 2 weeks until Friday 2ndNovember under traffic lights.

The Roads Section regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by this necessary roads infrastructure work.

PROUDLY SUPPORTED BY

Wednesday September 19th has been designated as Mouth Cancer Awareness Day here in Ireland.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit their local participating dentist or Cork University Dental School and Hospital for a FREE mouth cancer examination.

Over 300 cases of cancer of the mouth (oral cavity and pharynx) are detected in Ireland each year.  If detected early these cancers are easily treated.  A mouth cancer exam is painless and quick, takes only minutes and could save your life.

The last few years have seen particularly cold and harsh Winters here in Ireland.  The Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme has helped many elderly and vulnerable people to make their homes more comfortable, healthier and more cost effective to run.

If you think you or someone you know could benefit from this scheme please see the information below on how to apply.  Many of our elderly and vulnerable neighbours and friends may not have access to online media such as this page so please ensure you pass on this information to them, or ask them to contact us at any of the WUAG Offices if they need further help or assistance.  Contact details of WUAG Clinics are listed below or you can call Deputy Healy’s constituency office, Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm on 052 6121883.

What is the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme?

Better Energy Warmer Homes (BEWH), administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), funds energy efficiency improvements in the homes of the elderly and vulnerable, making their homes more comfortable, healthier and more cost effective to run.

What services are available?
The service involves the installation of standard energy efficiency measures appropriate to the eligible household subject to SEAI survey, budget allocation and available capacity. The service is provided at no cost to the household and the measures currently available under this scheme are:

 Attic insulation;
 Draught proofing;
 Lagging jackets;
 Low energy light bulbs;
 Cavity wall insulation;
 Energy advice.

Who can avail of the Scheme?
This scheme is available to homes which meet the following criteria:

 Owner occupied, non-Local Authority homes
 Constructed before 2002
 The owner is in receipt of one of the following:
o the Fuel Allowance as part of the National Fuel Scheme
o Job Seekers Allowance for over six months and with children under 7 years of age
o Family Income support

Landlords can avail of grants from Better Energy Homes if they have tenants in, or at risk of, energy poverty. See http://www.seai.ie/grants/better_energy_homes/ for more information.

How are the services provided?
BEWH services are provided by a panel of SEAI appointed non-profit community based organisations (CBOs) and a panel of SEAI appointed private contractors. CBO or Contractor installers are assigned to a household depending on their geographic location. CBOs and contractors deliver the BEWH to the highest quality assurance standards. Inspections are carried out on a sample of homes completed to ensure the standards are maintained.

How do you apply to the Better Energy Warmer Homes scheme?
Contact the Better Energy Warmer Homes helpdesk on 1800 250 204 or email warmerhomes@seai.ie
