From Tuesday, 28 August 2012 to Saturday, 01 September 2012 at (South Tipperary County Museum, Clonmel)

South Tipperary County Council Arts Service presents Dig where you stand a project and exhibition curated by Eilís Lavelle, Sarah Lincoln and Rosie Lynch. The exhibition will be launched on Thursday 5th July at 6pm at South Tipperary County Council Museum.

The project has been driven by the optimistic premise that the visual arts can speak in strong and original ways to the local, and can strengthen a sense that inspiration does not have to reside elsewhere, but exists in latent form under one’s feet.

Dig where you stand exhibition, draws on aspects of the County Museum collection and presents the work of four national and international contemporary artists. The exhibition explores language and text in relation to the telling of the past and geographical location and responds directly to the context of a local museum setting and unfolds through video, sound, installation, artifacts from the County Museum collection, found objects, design and a publication.

Artists include:
Susan Hiller (UK)
Uriel Orlow (CH)
Bridget O’Gorman (IE)
Philippa Sutherland (IE)

Dig where you stand has developed from a curatorial residency, initiated by South Tipperary Arts Office, and based in South Tipperary throughout 2012. The project, which includes a series of reading events, exhibitions and a publication, has been collaboratively conceived by curators Eilís Lavelle, Rosie Lynch and the artist/writer Sarah Lincoln. Previous reading events have been hosted in various locations throughout the County, including Tipperary Excel, Worksmen’s Boat Club, Clonmel and the Bolton Library, Cashel. The reading events have included screenings and installations by various artists including Johanna Billing, Bridget O’Gorman, Jennie Moran and Uriel Orlow.

A publication edited by Sarah Lincoln and designed by Séan O’Sullivan will be launched to coincide with the exhibition. It includes texts by Sarah Lincoln, Eilís Lavelle, Rosie Lynch, Séan O’Sullivan and contributions by Philippa Sutherland and Bridget O’Gorman.

Exhibition open Tuesday – Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. Admission: Free
